Notes on relationships, desire and agreements

Journal

One question at a time.

01 · A note

“I thought you knew.”

An expectation can feel obvious from inside the person carrying it. From the outside, it may never have been spoken. “How could they have known?” is not a defence. It is a useful question. It separates the wish for someone to notice from an agreement both people actually made.

Sex is rarely just sex.

Desire carries other questions with it: Am I wanted? Can I say no? What does this mean tomorrow? Who gets to initiate? We do not need a universal answer. We may need to know which question is present for us.

03 · A note

What exactly did we agree when we became exclusive?

A word can sound like an agreement while hiding several different meanings. Does it describe sex, dating, disclosure, future plans, or something else? The word matters less than what each person thinks it covers.
